When The Doors Close

go to the college and take it. it is a great opportunity to have pre college expierence, yet not be introduced full force of the college world. You seemed to have turned out pretty well being from Pound and all, wouldnt you say? To my knowledge the people graduating from these schools can count over 10. Many have graduated from college or so I have heard. Many even taking AP classes, oh my, along with college courses. With 2 colleges in our county shouldnt we take advantage of that?

I dunno though maybe all the time I spent away in various college towns have clouded my mind and left me with a feeling that people should be able to choose.

So tell me. Where's the great economy in each of our Wise County towns since we currently have a secondary school in each of these communities? What do the residents of Pound have to show for their tax dollars? Pound has Foodland, The Dollar General, a carwash, a broken down footbridge, and a park that consists of a single small prefab play gym.

Why let the students of the smaller public schools suffer because of smaller population?

Comparing colleges & universities makes no sense. People choose to spend their money at these schools. Apples & oranges. Mandatory vs Optional.

The economy in Pound would be even worse off without the school. I have pointed out in previous posts that the problems in Pound have been aggravated by the intentional centralization of economic development in Wise- to a large extent funded by money from Pound and Appalachia.

they are also the county seat and home of the federal courthouse, are you going to tell me that doesnt play a role? UVA Wise and MECC are located in both downs. Wal-Mart, Retsauraunts etc. Your telling me that any rural area should be leveled because they arent the epicenter of their county? SOmeone call the Cove and Twin SPrings, Gate City has a Long Johns, its time to get the blue and white on.

What if someone likes living on Bold Camp... they CHOOSE to live there, yet are forced to go to school in WIse? Someone choses to live in Josephine yet they are forced to go to PV? Wait, or is that not exactly what I said.

Apples and Oranges as its said, maybe its the one who wants the orange when they are being told to have an apple.
